Everybody wants to talk about "growth". It's cool to talk about how you've grown personally or professionally. But let's talk about what happens when you shrink. That's what happened to me this summer during my break. So let's talk about it and how I got back on track.
During the summer break, I made a decision to invest in some professional development. In my efforts, I began to follow some really great gurus and coaches; people who were very influential, who had receipts, and who were in the space I wanted to be in. Sounds good right? Then I began to consume EVERY SINGLE THING they had: masterclasses, videos, workbooks, worksheets, you name it! Two things began to happen:
I began to get anxious and question what I had and the direction I was going.
I began to REVISE everything. I was all over the place. It was a real case of A.D.O.S. aka "Attention Deficit... OOOOO Shiny"
I made so many unnecessary reiterations to my plan because there was just too much noise. So when it came down to actually planning for my next season, I couldn't focus. Sometimes, it's not comparisons that stop you. It's too much noise.
So how did I get back on track?
In the past three weeks I had to stop and do the following:
Remember MY WHY.
Understand that people are giving me products based on THEIR why. That doesn't mean I have to consume everything.
Turn off the noise. I had to weed out information that didn't suit my vision (Their vision for success does not equal MY vision for success)
Weed out the information that doesn't line up with the Word of God (remember, receipts aren't enough).
Realize that it's okay to start over!
Once I walked through these steps my mind was clearer. I could go back to square one and build from there. I was able to clearly see my vision and where I was headed. So, if you find yourself stuck right now, try it! Let me know how it turns out for you. I want to hear from you. Send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org
